With newly elected president Joe Biden were imminent and talking points around his foreign laws are being scrutinized. Monday shocking pictures surfaced showing the U.S Customs and Border Protection overflow their facility in Donna. Pictures of the overcrowded facility were released by congressman Henry Cuellar, the republican revealed that pictures taken over the weekend portray the terrible conditions endured by the children at the border, further confirming over four hundred minors are being kept in tents that are meant to hold about 260 tenants.

Stressing that a total number of 823 unaccompanied children were held at US-Mexico border facilities for more than 10 days but could not confirm as to why the children were not accompanied by adults. The leaked security document shows an increased number of children since last week, making it a total of 2,226 unaccompanied children. The law states that children are not supposed to be held in border patrol custody for more than three days, indicating that laws are being broken with regards to customs and minors. A member of the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) told CBS they witnessed the shocking living conditions as well when they visited a tent recently holding unaccompanied minors in Donna, Texas

The White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commented and said organized trips would be arranged for the press to gain access to the facility but refused to share images of the facilities. Psaki refused to call the situation at the border a “crisis”, saying the Biden Administration previously mentioned that “these border patrol facilities are not made for children”. She provided popular scenarios as to why children end up at the facilities, saying “Children presented at the border, who are fleeing violence, who are fleeing prosecution, who are fleeing terrible situations is not a crisis. We feel that it is our responsibility to humanely approach this circumstance, and make sure they are treated and put into conditions that are safe”.

After Congressman Henry Cuellar released the images on Monday, the media criticized the living conditions and an overwhelming number of unaccompanied minors in the camp, but no comment was given with regards to that. Jen Psaki later said putting in place more effective and efficient processing at the border, is going to take some time.  The media is waiting on permission to visit camps for more information and further images.
