Music industry publication Billboard has issued an apology to Taylor Swift. This happened after the publication included an inappropriate image of a wax figure of the singer in their tribute.

December 13, 2024– As outlined in CNN, the music publication announced that Swift is the second greatest pop star of the 21st century. However, the publication has been receiving backlash. Specifically, the publication included the famous clip from Kanye West’s music video for his song Famous in their tribute to the singer. For instance, the clip consists of a nude wax figure of the singer and the line “I made that [expletive] famous.”

The two performers have a history of rivalry including at the Grammy’s. As outlined in The Independent, Billboard included a highlight reel of archival footage of the singer. However, recently, the publication removed it and posted a new version. In addition, the publication also posted an apology to Swift and her fans.

“We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her. We have removed the clip from our video and sincerely regret the harm we caused with this error,” the statement read.

As outlined in CNN, the image of the wax figure was causing controversy when it was released in 2016. Specifically, Swift states that she did not condone her image to be used in the video. However, Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, released a video to the public. Swift appears to approve West’s request to use the figure in this video. However, another version of the video was later released. This version seems to support Swift’s version of the story. However, the singer received a lot of backlash from the public at the time, which caused her to retreat from the public eye.
