Captain Tom’s family says that they received death threats and hate mail.

The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore has revealed that they received death threats and have been profoundly “devastated” by the negative responses directed towards them.

Captain Tom, who captured the hearts of millions with his determination and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, passed away in February 2021 at the age of 100. His legacy, however, continues to inspire people worldwide. In a time when unity and empathy are needed more than ever, the news of his family facing such vitriol has left the nation in disbelief.

The family, who had been grieving the loss of their beloved patriarch, found themselves targeted by a barrage of death threats and hate mail. The nature of these threats has not been disclosed, but authorities are taking them very seriously, launching a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators.

The captain’s daughter said to TV’s Piers Morgan Uncensored, “There is a forum… they were all discussing how they were going to come and kill us all in our beds.”

In a candid interview with presenter Piers Morgan, Ms. Ingram-Moore responded to the criticism, stating, “We haven’t been the kind of family trying to exploit his legacy for personal gain. We genuinely aimed to do the right thing, and while sometimes it hasn’t worked out as intended, it was never our intention to cause harm.”

Her 19-year-old son, Benji, expressed deep concern about the abuse his mother had endured: “It’s truly heartbreaking to witness the impact this has had on her. People are entitled to their opinions, but what’s unbearable is the vile threats and abuse. There were moments when I worried if she could continue enduring this.”

When asked if she had ever felt similarly, Ms. Ingram-Moore responded firmly, “No, I am my father’s daughter, after all… but it has been utterly devastating.”

She went on to highlight the irony of the situation. Despite the global adoration for her father’s remarkable achievements, there has always been a dark undercurrent of hate. “While the world admired what my father did, there was always an underbelly of hate. We lived with it because he was offering hope to the world.”

Ms. Ingram-Moore expressed her disbelief, saying, “It never crossed our minds that anyone could harbor such animosity towards a 100-year-old man walking to support the NHS, along with the family standing steadfastly behind him, doing everything we could to support his noble cause.”

A building in the family’s garden, initially approved for the use of the occupiers and the Captain Tom Foundation, received planning permission in August 2021. However, revised plans, including private facilities, were submitted in February 2022 and rejected. The family acknowledged the mistake of naming the foundation in the initial application.

The Charity Commission’s ongoing inquiry is investigating potential mismanagement, financial losses, and conflicts of interest involving private companies connected to the Ingram-Moore family. Bedfordshire Police and the family have been contacted for comments regarding the threats.
