Various news outlets reported that Ted Kaczynski, who had emailed 16 bombs to several targets across the U.S., died at 81. He was declared dead on Saturday, June 10, and the reason for the death is yet to be announced.

For 17 years, between 1978 and 1995, the man sent bombs to people in the U.S., killed three people, and injured more than 20 other individuals, People notes. In 1996, Kaczynski was arrested and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after he had pleaded guilty to his criminal charges. Otherwise, he would have been given the death penalty, the same source notes.

Kaczynski spent his life in a Supermax prison in Florence, Colo, for two decades. The same source confirmed that in 2021, he was moved to another facility, as he had been experiencing several health conditions which remained unnamed.

The man was linked to the by-that-time notorious Unabomber following his arrest in 1996 when the public found out who was mailing bombs to victims in the U.S.

According to ABC News, prior to his arrest, Kaczynski sent a 35,000-word manifesto to several newspapers. As he threatened to keep injuring people if the manifesto was not made public, the newspapers agreed to publish the document.

Ted Kaczynski Brother

According to ABC News, the people who suspected Ted to be Unabomber for the first time were his brother, David Kaczynski, and his sister-in-law, Linda Patrik. In 2020, Linda opened up about how they started suspecting Ted of the murders. As the source notes, they connected his identity to the tragedies by recognizing the handwriting of Unabomber.

“I’d thought about the families that were bombed. There was one in which the package arrived to the man’s home and his little 2-year-old daughter was there. She was almost in the room when he opened the package. Luckily she left, and his wife left. And then he died. And there were others. And so I spent those days thinking about those people.” she recalled, as noted by ABC.
