Felicity Jones Talks ‘Jittery’ Nerves and ‘Sense of Danger’ in New Interview
January 30, 2025: Felicity Jones’ sense of danger is “so much stronger” after having her children.
Feeling Jittery: An Unexpected Response to Success
Despite being one of Hollywood’s most talented actresses, Felicity Jones still experiences nerves before taking on new projects. “I’m jittery,” she admitted, sharing that this feeling of anxiety has never left her. This honesty about her nerves reveals that even the most accomplished stars can feel insecure at times. Jones emphasized that the uncertainty surrounding new roles keeps her on her toes, adding a sense of excitement but also a lingering feeling of vulnerability. Her openness about these emotions helps to humanize an actress often perceived as composed and confident in her career.
Felicity Jones Opens Up About Growing Insecurities and Superstitions
She told Jessie and Lennie Ware on their ‘Table Manners’ podcast: “I think you just get more insecure as you get older, don’t you? I used to never have a problem going in an airplane, and now I’m listening to meditation apps.
“I’m jittery. I think it’s having children. I think suddenly your perceived sense of danger is so much stronger.”
And Felicity admitted she is “very” superstitious.
She said: “I don’t like walking on cracks and pavements. Yeah, I am very (suspicious). I mean, it’s trying to find some control in a world of chaos.”
Despite her cautious nature, the 41-year-old star still went snowboarding after learning the winter sport for 2011 movie ‘Chalet Girl’ – but quickly returned to skiing after falling flat on her face.
She said: “I had to learn how to snowboard… I did do it a bit [afterwards]. I went not long after I shot ‘Chalet Girl’.
“And in my head, I thought it was going to be so good. And then the moment I came off the lift I wobbled and fell flat on my face, and then consequently, throughout the whole time, kept falling over.
“And after that, I’d done a little bit of skiing when I was younger. So I went back to skiing.”
The “Sense of Danger”: Pushing Through Fear
Alongside her jitters, Jones also described having a “sense of danger” that fuels her desire to take on new challenges. This sense of danger is what pushes her to step outside her comfort zone and take risks in her career. “There’s a sense of danger that is stronger than ever,” she explained. Jones sees this fear not as something to avoid but as an essential part of her creative process. It motivates her to continue evolving as an artist and ensures that she doesn’t settle into complacency.
For Jones, this sense of danger is intertwined with the excitement of exploring new roles, which she believes is vital for growth in her craft. In fact, the fear of failing or making a wrong choice drives her to constantly strive for excellence. Her candid admission speaks to the universal human experience of grappling with fear and uncertainty, even in moments of success.
Challenging Expectations and Growing as an Artist
Throughout her career, Felicity Jones has taken on a variety of roles that have challenged her as an actress. For instance, from portraying Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything to starring in Rogue One, Jones has always sought projects that push her limits. As a result, she explained that the “sense of danger” she feels is a direct result of choosing projects that are outside her comfort zone. Each new role presents a challenge, and Jones sees this as an opportunity to grow.
“I never want to feel too comfortable,” she said, reflecting on her decision to take on complex and diverse roles. Consequently, her willingness to take risks has shaped her career and allowed her to develop as an artist. In a world where many actors and actresses often get pigeonholed into certain types of roles, Jones’ commitment to challenging herself sets her apart and ensures that her career remains dynamic and fresh.
Overcoming Nerves and Embracing Vulnerability
Felicity Jones embraces vulnerability, using her nerves and sense of danger as fuel for her performances. Furthermore, her transparency highlights the importance of mental health in Hollywood, where pressure can be overwhelming. By sharing her anxiety, Jones helps normalize these struggles and encourages others to face their fears with courage, reducing the stigma around mental health in the industry.

With a growing body of work and an ever-expanding fanbase, Jones continues to break barriers and redefine what it means to be a successful actress. Her “sense of danger” is not something she wants to escape, but rather something she seeks out as a source of inspiration.
Ultimately, The excitement and anxiety she feels before a new project are simply part of the journey for Jones. For her, it’s not about eliminating fear but learning to work with it, using it to fuel her performances and her passion for acting. As she moves forward, Felicity Jones remains dedicated to growth and the exploration of her craft, demonstrating that even at the top of her game, the best is yet to come.
