On Wednesday, rapper Fetty Wap was sentenced to six years in prison with drug trafficking charges, People notes. In August 2022, Fetty Wap, real name Willie Maxwell, pleaded guilty, the same source adds.

Earlier this week, he held himself accountable for his past actions in front of the U.S. court. “Me being selfish in my pride put me in this position today.” the rapper said.

“This is a sad day. This is a kid from Paterson, New Jersey who made it out.” attorney Elizabeth Macedonio said after hearing the sentence. According to Macedonio, Fetty Wap “accepts responsibility for his conduct,” AP notes.

According to the same sources, the rapper was charged with “conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances.” Between June 2019 and June 2020, Willie Maxwell, 31, allegedly distributed heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine alongside six other people. According to The U.S. Department of Justice, Maxwell “was a kilogram-level redistributor” of these substances across New Jersey and Long Island.

“The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become,” an FBI statement reads, as noted by People.

“The defendant did actually sell drugs. The defendant did actually sell cocaine.” Christopher Caffarone, Assistant United States Attorneys, said about the rapper.
