In this Reddit thread, people had a lot to say about the alleged controversy. Check out some of the comments that users added to the viral thread, below:

“Why is he being used like he’s a genius at voice acting? He sounds the same in everything. Besides, Garfield is supposed to have a lazy-like, sarcastic tone in his voice. Lorenzo Music had it, even Bill Murray did the voice correctly for the Garfield films he did. Chris Pratt sounds like Chris Pratt, goofy and jock-y.”

“I did not expect to hear his voice when the trailer dropped. It was jarring, I think personally I’d go for someone a lot more monotone and lazily spoken, like- Bill Murray low-key nailed it. I’m so annoyed by celebrity voice-acting.”

“Terrible. I don’t have high stakes on the Garfield movie, but growing up with the Garfield animated show, it just feels jarring to watch the trailer and hear his voice as Garf, instead of something more fitting to the pre-conception many have with the character, but that’s the way they try to commercialize their movie. I’m friends with a hardcore Garfield fan, and she absolutely hates it too.”
