HOLR is chatting with The Bikeriders star, Phuong Kubacki. Check out our conversation, below!

Actress Phuong Kubacki is giving HOLR the inside scoop on what it was like to work alongside Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and the rest of the star-studded The Bikeriders cast, which is a film all about a Midwestern motorcycle club. In addition to The Bikeriders, Kubacki has had notable appearances in acclaimed TV shows such as “Better Call Saul,” “Chicago PD,” “Blue Bloods,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” and “General Hospital.”

During our conversation, Kubacki talks how she got started in the industry, what it was like preparing for her role in The Bikeriders film, and what her future goals are for 2024.

Talk to us about your story and how you got started in the acting industry.

I’m originally from the Midwest, and my parents were immigrants. They really wanted me to be a doctor, or a lawyer, and go into something that was more consistent and reliable. In school, however, I started doing cheerleading and dancing because I really loved performing in general. I then started to do some print work and commercials, in which I transitioned into TV and film. Now that I have been doing it I absolutely love it.

Tell us all about your latest role in the new film, The Bikeriders, which just dropped. What can people expect when tuning in to watch?

They can expect an amazing commitment to story in a wonderful time period. The 1960’s had the coolest hair and the coolest outfits. There’s leather jackets, there’s fights- there’s also a beautiful love story and a commitment to authenticity. It’s a beautiful story and I hope everybody enjoys it.

How did you prepare for the role?

So the movie is inspired by real people and the person that I play, her name was Gail. They showed us pictures of the people we were going to be and Gail had a beehive, and some cool style, so I knew it was going to be fun to get into character. They also gave us a dialect coach because they wanted a Midwest accent. We had video and audio and I did my own personal research to prepare for the role. There’s a book called “The Bikeriders” by Danny Lyon and this is where he pulled inspiration from so it was a photobook of all real people. Looking at it, you see all of this raw imagery of these people- it was glamorous but in a raw and edgy way.

You star alongside Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy in the film- what was this experience like?

It was so amazing in so many different ways. At first, I was overwhelmed and intimidated because it was so much star power! However, it was a masterclass in acting having so many talented actors in the same room as you, and seeing them work. I learned so much just by watching them.
Austin is extremely kind and he really took the time with people and fans who would wait outside the set to see him. I thought that was so nice.
Tom Hardy is so charismatic and charming. It’s so great to just be in the same space as him.
Jodie is just so talented! It was nice to see her work because she’s extremely talented.
Aside from these actors, there were so many other actors that were so talented on set. It was an all-star cast completely.

Talk to us about your other notable appearances in acclaimed TV shows such as “Better Call Saul,” “Chicago PD,” and “Blue Bloods” and how they have shaped who you are as an actress.

I had auditioned for some of those shows several times! This was over the course of several years, so finally booking those just taught me persistence and hard work pays off. You may not get it the first time but if you commit to learning and don’t give up on yourself, you can achieve those goals.

What’s next for you? Can you share your goals for 2024?

I have a movie that I just wrapped which will be on Hulu probably next year. It’s a really funny movie so I’m excited about that. It has a lot of comedy in it which I don’t have a lot of so I want people to see that side of me.
I would say my goals for the rest of 2024  is to keep working. I am open to all different kinds of projects. I would love to do something in the superhero space- or with action! I think that could be fun as well. Most importantly I would want to work with some really nice people.
