Attorney General Letitia James Trump

Letitia James is the current attorney general of New York, serving in the position since January 2019. She is the first African-American and the first woman to hold this position. As attorney general, she is responsible for enforcing state laws, protecting the rights of New Yorkers, and advocating for consumer protection, environmental conservation, and social justice.

James has been a vocal critic of former president Donald Trump and his administration. During her tenure, she has launched several investigations into Trump’s businesses and activities. One such investigation is an ongoing $250m (£202m) lawsuit filed against the Trump Organization, accusing the company of committing fraud over a decade.

In November 2022, Trump filed a lawsuit against James, alleging that she had conducted a “war of intimidation” against him and the Trump Organization. However, on January 20th, 2023, Trump withdrew the lawsuit after US District Judge Donald Middlebrooks accused him of using the courts to seek revenge. The judge called Trump a “mastermind of strategic abuse of the judicial process” and ordered him to pay nearly $1m in fines for another lawsuit filed against Hillary Clinton.

Judge Middlebrooks also warned that Trump could face further sanctions over his lawsuit against James, which he described as inadequate and intended for a political purpose. The lawsuit was filed in November 2022, but Trump withdrew it less than a day after the judge’s rebuke.

In summary, Letitia James is the current attorney general of New York who has been investigating Donald Trump’s businesses and activities. Trump filed a lawsuit against her, but it was withdrawn in January 2023 after a judge accused him of using the courts to seek revenge. James has not commented on the matter.
