The 16-year-old child of Slack and Flickr co-founders went missing on April 21st from their home in Bolinas. Police found Butterfield in the back of a white van that belonged to a 26-year-old man. Keep reading to find out more!

Mint Butterfield Found

Marin County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Sunday that the child of Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield, and Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake, was located after going missing on April 21st.

According to the statement, Mint (they/them), was last scene in their Bolinas home on April 21st. Detectives “learned Mint may have been associated with an adult friend,” who ended up being 26-year-old Christopher “Kio” Dizefalo. Police learned of Dizefalo’s association with a “white van” and “located Mint safe inside,” in San Francisco, approximately 29 miles away from Bolinas.

Butterfield was then “returned to the custody of their family,”

Who is Cristopher Kio Dizefalo?

The man who police say was an “adult friend” of 16-year-old Mint Butterfield, 26-year-old San Francisco resident Christopher “Kio” Dizefalo.

“After being interviewed by” police, “Dizefalo was arrested for multiple criminal violations and was booked in the Marin County Jail,” according to the statement.

According to a related article, Dizefalo faces charges of “suspicion of child abduction” among other “felonies,” Dizefalo’s bail is set at $50,000.

Police revealed that Mint ran away from home voluntarily and didn’t suspect foul play.

Mint’s parents, Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield and Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake released a statement alongside Mint’s stepfather to express their “gratitude to the hard working [sic] men and women of SFPD” and the Marin County Sheriff’s office “who safely recovered our child, Mint,”

Why did Mint Butterfield Go Missing?

Police and the Butterfield family haven’t given a public reason for Mint’s actions. The family’s statement thanked “seasoned law enforcement officers” working on Mint’s missing person’s case “who understand the very real threat of predators who use the allure of drugs to groom teenagers,”
