‘SNL’ Mocks President Trump and Zelenskyy Meeting

March 4th, 2025 – ‘Saturday Night Live’ cold open makes a mockery of the belligerent Oval Office meeting between Donald Trump, JD Vance and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Yesterday, President Trump hosted Ukrainian President Zelenskyy at the White House and it went really really well. Everyone who watched felt at ease and thought, ‘The world is now a safer place.’” These were the parodic opening lines for last Saturday’s SNL show which ‘replayed’ the unprecedented meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.

James Austin Johnson playing President Trump welcomed Zelenskyy, who was played by Mikey Day, saying “I’d like to welcome President Zelenskyy here to this incredible trap.”

The cold open played on many of the now-infamous moments from the real-life meeting between the Presidents. For example, as President Zelenskyy tries to get a word in, Bowen Yang’s JD Vance jumps in, “What happened to ‘thank you’? ‘Kay? Remember ‘thank you’? You haven’t said ‘thank you’ to us once for the past fifteen seconds I’ve been yelling at you.”

SNL shows Trump and Vance’s increasing condescension towards Zelenskyy, forcing him to remain quiet as they talk on and on. When Zelenskyy finally does get a word in, he is shut down immediately.

“You have been talking this entire time,” Vance says. “I’m sorry—does the sign outside say Ukraine House? No, it says America House.”

Making a callback to Trump’s actual “I have the cards” line during the real-life meeting, Johnson’s Trump brags to Zelenskyy: “You say you want to end this war, but frankly you don’t have the cards. Okay? I have the cards. I have Skip. I have Draw Four. I have Get Out of Jail Free . . . the Supreme Court gave me that one.”

The SNL skit’s disastrous meeting continues as Mike Myers runs on stage playing Elon Musk.

Mike Myers Surprise SNL Cameo as Elon Musk

On Saturday, Mike Myers made a surprise cameo on SNL playing Elon Musk during a parody of the Oval Office meeting. Myers was originally part of the SNL group, having starred in shows from 1989 to 1995.

As Musk, Myers runs onto the stage, carrying a chainsaw. He greets Trump before asking, “What are you doing in my office? You know I’m the president now, right? I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Maybe not.”

The meeting continues as the men talk about recent government layoffs. Musk defends the “mass firings”, exclaiming: “They’re saying I’m firing people with no cause. But I do have cause — it’s ‘cause’ I feel like it.”

To end the skit, Johnson’s Trump says, “Well – I think that concludes a pretty much perfect press conference.”
