The best summer drinks to sip on!

Summer is just around the corner, and as we finish our spring cleaning and count down the days until we can bring out the sundresses and jean shorts, we’re looking forward to some good bevies to get us in the mood for summer. Here are some of the best summer drinks to sip on all season long.

Strawberry Mimosas

Speaking of counting down the days, this Sunday, May 16th is National Mimosa Day, and nothing quite says patio season like a good mimosa. The orange juice and champagne combo has been a brunch staple for years, so why not switch things up a bit by swapping the oranges for strawberries? With just a little extra prep time to make the strawberry juice, this is an easy way to add a summery spin to this classic cocktail.

Singapore Sling

Another timeless classic, the Singapore Sling has a tropical fruity flavour, often with a mix of juice from fruit like orange, pineapple and lime. First developed at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the original recipe is thought to have been lost in the 1930s, so today everyone makes it a little differently. This recipe is a more modern take that builds off the basic gin sling formula by adding Bénédictine, cherry liqueur, a maraschino cherry and a slice of lemon to garnish.

 Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade

Lemonade is essentially synonymous with summertime. It’s light and refreshing and always pleases a crowd. Nowadays it comes in a variety of flavours, usually made by adding different fruits and ingredients to the lemon juice + water + sugar equation. This combo of mango and dragonfruit mixed into the lemonade is a popular menu item at Starbucks, but now you can make it at home, and add a splash of fruit punch flavour – and that fabulous pink colour – to your lemonade.

Brown Sugar Iced Coffee

With the hot weather comes, of course, iced coffee season. The brown sugar iced coffee, or burnt sugar latte as it’s sometimes called, is a tasty and trendy way to serve iced coffee that feels like a fancy coffee shop beverage but is easy enough to make at home. Start by making a brown sugar simple syrup, then add ice once cooled and layer on milk and coffee, either cold brew or hot brewed coffee that’s been chilled. Perfect for a morning off on a warm summer day!

Blackberry Champagne Mule

And for those hot summer nights, how about a fresh and sparkling take on a Moscow mule? The Moscow Mule, ginger beer mixed with vodka and lime, has been a fashionable drink for a few years now. Adding some bubbly champagne or sparkling wine, some sweet and tart blackberries, and some mint to the bright and slightly spicy Moscow mule flavour makes for a refreshing summer treat! Simply muddle the berries, lime and mint together, combine with vodka, then add the ginger beer and champagne when serving with mint leaves to garnish.
