On Tuesday, Tory Lanez was sentenced to ten years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, BBC notes.

According to the source, the rapper “was found guilty on three gun-related charges” in December 2022 and spent time in jail ever since. After the shooting, the victim had to undergo a medical intervention to have bullet parts removed from her foot.

Initially, prosecutors asked for a 13-year prison sentence, as Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of “assault with a semi-automatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.”

The incident happened during a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s residence after the two had started an argument. According to Vulture, Megan Thee Stallion opened up about the shooting via an Instagram video in which she claimed for the first time that the shooter was Lanez.

“Yes, this n- – – – Tory shot me,” she said in the clip. Megan continued by explaining that she had not informed the police about the assault sooner. “I didn’t get cut by no glass, but let me tell you why they’re saying that. When the police came because the neighbors called the police … the police come — I’m scared. All this shit going on with the police … I didn’t want to die. I didn’t want the police to shoot me cause there’s a n- – – – with a gun in the car with me.” she added.

During his trial on Tuesday, the rapper read a statement in which he held himself accountable for the shooting.

“There’s been this misconception about me being this monster or not having remorse, that’s just not true,” he told the court, as noted by BBC. “That night was a night that everyone was drunk… I said some very immature things. If I could turn back the series of events… I would, but I can’t.” he added. “But to think that I am some sort of callous individual is not the case. The victim was my friend… [and] she still is to this day.”

“I did wrong that night and I take full responsibility and culpability for it.” the rapper continued.

Megan did not attend the hearing on Tuesday. However, Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta read a pre-written statement.

“I struggle with being present. After everything that occurred I cannot bring myself back to being in the same room with Tory,” the statement reads. “I’ve been tormented and terrorized,” she added. Read more about her statement here.
