You probably haven’t heard of ‘Library Trap’, but that’s about to change with the release of their debut single ‘Murakami (feat. Davy)’. What started as a by-chance friendship at Toronto’s Northern Secondary School has blossomed into a dynamic group that marries hip hop with elements of alternative rock, R&B, and jazz.

The four members shared a spare period, spent not-so-coincidentally in the school’s library, where a shared passion for music brought them together. Consisting of the uniformly named LT Eli, LT Gleam, LT Untitled, and LT Jai, ‘Library Trap’ found inspiration for their unique sound in the discography of artists like A$AP Rocky, Frank Ocean, Pi’erre Bourne, and Lil Uzi Vert among others. The group wears its influences on its sleeve, and in aggregating their musical tastes, they have created a true labor of love in their first single. Reflecting their modest beginning, the beat for this song was created entirely on an Akai MPK Mini keyboard. Davy, the featured artist on the track, seamlessly collaborated with the group not only by lending his voice, but also his production skill by lowering the bpm and giving the song a distinct sense of atmosphere. The debut single is a milestone in any musical career, but ‘Library Trap’ has only just begun their journey. With plans to release more group singles and a self-titled EP, the group has its collective mind set firmly on the future. Murakami (feat. Davy) by Library Trap drops on February 5th, 2021; an exciting debut from a group that will transport listeners to a new frontier of sound.
