The judge in the case stated that the reasonable total loss for investors was $121 million. The judge will also determine what Holmes owes at a later date. During the 4-hour sentencing, Holmes “tearfully” took responsibility for her actions in regard to Theranos, apologizing to investors and patients.
Holmes allegedly deceived investors during her blood-testing start-up Theranos, which ultimately failed. Although friends and family supposedly wrote notes to the judge on the case regarding being more lenient on Holmes’ sentencing, she was ultimately sentenced to 11.25 years in prison and is slated to begin her sentence this week.
What is Theranos Supposed To Do?
Theranos supposedly claimed to be able to perform hundreds of tests ranging from cholesterol levels to complex genetic analysis, with simply a single pinprick of blood, as noted here. This was later dubbed the Theranos scandal.
