On October 5th, British artist Adele broke the internet by announcing news long-awaited by her fans: her fourth album is actually coming out. And it seems to be coming out pretty soon. The album was originally supposed to be launched in 2020 but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The singer posted a short teaser of her newest song, the album’s lead single entitled “Easy on Me”, to be fully released on October 15th.

The very exciting news was shared by Adele through a black-and-white video posted to her Twitter account where she appears inserting a cassette tape bearing the song’s title into a car stereo and driving off, her hand making a wave motion and pages of sheet music flying away. The video, directed by Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan, was recorded in September at the Canadian Eastern Townships. It had 5 million views in its first hour over Twitter and Instagram, and doubled that number by the end of the day.

Adele’s fans have been betting on an album drop ever since they started spotting some posters and projections of the number 30 – the expected name of this highly anticipated album – on walls of buildings all over the world. Those billboards popped out in iconic places across the globe, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, New York’s Empire State Building, the Colosseum in Rome, Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, and Amsterdam’s Nemo Museum. Although neither Adele nor her team has confirmed her connection to the insurgent posters, they seem to use the same font previously used by the artist in her album covers. Moreover, her social media platforms have been updated and the new profile picture features a navy blue image that matches the colour scheme used on the billboards.

Adele hadn’t released any new songs for the past 6 years, but her previous albums – 19, 21, and 25 – were all named after the age she was in an important year of her life. At age 30, the artist got divorced from Simon Konecki, hence the deduction about the possible album’s name. On another perspective, Adele had told James Corden in 2016 that she would be abandoning the numerical naming convention since “she believes in trilogies”, and she even added that “the next one is just going to be ‘Adele’”.
