American rapper Big Pokey died this weekend in a bar in Texas, his publicist confirmed. According to The Guardian, the rapper, who was 45 years old, collapsed on Sunday night in Beaumont.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell. Big Pokey passed away on June 18, 2023. He was well-loved by his family, his friends, and his loyal fans. In the coming days, we will release information about his celebration of life and how the public can pay their respects. We ask that you respect his family and their privacy during this difficult time. Big Pokey will forever be ‘The Hardest Pit in the Litter.'” an official statement by his publicist reads.

According to this source, the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Rapper Lil’ Flip, a friend of Big Pokey, shared the details about what had happened after Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell collapsed on stage. “He text me again saying okay they’re doing CPR, and then he said they taking him to the hospital… and I guess he was saying it was cardiac arrest,” he said, as noted here.

Several people addressed the unexpected death of Big Pokey on their social media accounts. “I wasn’t ready for this. One of the most naturally talented artists in the city. Low key, humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect.” rapper Bun B wrote on Instagram.
