Drake’s record label, Universal Music Group, filed a motion to dismiss his lawsuit against Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us.’ The lawsuit stems from a feud between the two rappers, which resulted in Lamar releasing the diss track.
Kendrick Lamar ‘Not Like Us’ Explained
March 20, 2025-Universal Music Group is requesting to dismiss Drake’s lawsuit against Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us.’ The lawsuit is targeting the award winning rap song for defamation. However, the record label is arguing that the track is not defamatory, but instead “it clearly conveys nonactionable opinion and rhetorical hyperbole.”

Both Drake and Lamar are represented by different divisions of UMG, and Lamar himself is not accused of any wrongdoing in the lawsuit. Instead, Drake’s stated that the company had “launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves.”
However, UMG disputed this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support it. In addition, UMG’s lawyers pointed out that Drake “had no concerns using UMG’s platform to publish slurs about Lamar during their rap feud.”
Drake and Kendrick Beef Explained
The feud between the two rappers has been going on for years. For instance, in 2013 Lamar released “Control,” a song that discussed themes of competition within the industry. While Drake is challenged in a verse, Lamar uses that verse to critique multiple rappers. However, the two stars have released a variety of a songs targeting each other since then. In 2024 Lamar released ‘Not Like Us,’ resulting in the lawsuit.
