17 people transported to hospital during Ed Sheeran’s Pittsburgh concert

During Ed Sheeran’s concert Saturday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 17 people were hospitalized due to excessive heat. On Saturday, temperatures raised to 87 degrees. The concert was the most recent stop for his + – = ÷ x (“Mathematics”) Tour.

The press release from Pittsburgh EMS told the public, “Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS personnel working during the Ed Sheeran concert received 37 calls for service, with 17 transports to the hospital. The transports were for heat-related issues, some falls, one seizure, and two cardiac arrests.” The people that were transported for cardiac arrest were people working at the show. One was a concert employee deconstructing the setup and the other person was a paramedic leaving the stadium.

Heat-related illnesses, like those suffered by the hospitalized concertgoers on Saturday, can result from spending too much time in hot environments. On the CDC website, you may find more details about heat-related illnesses, including how to treat and avoid them.
