Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, sued Paltrow for a ski accident that allegedly left him with multiple injuries. “I have suffered immensely not just from the physical injuries I suffered,” the 76-year-old man wrote in his complaint, as mentioned here. Additionally, the complaint read that the man had suffered “severe psychological problems including fear, anxiety and depression” following the incident.
As a result, Sanderson had sued the actress for approx. $3 million which was later reduced to $300,000, according to CNN.

The Utah Jury found the retired optometrist to be “100 percent at fault” and allowed the actress to leave the courtroom shortly after the decision. On her way to the exit, Paltrow quickly stopped next to Sanderson and whispered something in his ear. According to E! News, the actress told the man “I wish you well”, then left.
Following the verdict, Gwyneth, 50, made some public statements on the trial. “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity,” the actress said, as mentioned in the same article. “I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.” she continued.
The actress won “$1 in damages” as symbolically requested in her countersuit against Terry Sanderson.
