December 9, 2024– According to this TikTok video posted by user @cocomocoe, fans have taken to social media to discuss allegations surrounding whether or not Mariah Carey’s Spotify Wrapped message this year was done using AI.

As the TikToker explains, Carey can be seen in the trending clip thanking her audience for listening. However, the clip went viral because fans thought that it was AI, alleging the video looked “AI made” in social media posts.
As the TikToker further details, there are some things about the viral video that some fans noticed, such as the eyes moving to allegedly read a teleprompter, while the shadows are supposedly “off” in which the clip seems “one dimensional” to onlookers.
The TikToker also explains how human flaws such as acne, stuttering, etc in content are seemingly becoming more valued as conversations surrounding AI and things like robots become more prominent in everyday life.

However, according to this article by The Hollywood Reporter, Carey took to social media to set the message straight with this remark, seemingly clapping back at controversial claims that her message was reportedly done using AI:
“Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI?? There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things! About to celebrate #Christmastime with my Boston #lambily!”
