How does Israel’s Iron Dome work? HOLR talks about it.

Israel’s Iron Dome is a highly effective missile defense system that was implemented to protect its citizens.

Israel Iron Dome Video

According to this TikTok video posted by user @cnn, the only thing that can compromise the Iron Dome is an insufficiency of ammunition. As mentioned, in anticipation of events such as this one, the United States reportedly supplies more ammunition as needed for Israel in which that ammunition is allegedly coming as per a commitment from President Biden, as noted in the below video.

Israel Iron Dome System

Here’s how it works.

Across the country, the Iron Domes works as a system that – wherever they are on the ground – is interlocked with other Iron Dome firing systems. When missiles are fired from Gaza, the system detects the trajectory of where the missiles are coming from and where they are calculated to be going. As a result, in this instance, the nearest Iron Dome fires off to intercept Hamas rockets as they come into Israeli land.

The following TikTok video posted by user @hanyicpx2bw showcases the key components of the Iron Dome and how it works:

Why does Israel have Iron Dome?

As mentioned in this related article, this “ground-to-air short-range air defense system counters rocket attacks, mortars, artillery shells, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) at short range.”

Iron Dome Advantages and Disadvantages

As noted in the above TikTok video, the Iron Dome features 3 components, the detection and tracking radar Command Unit, the Weapons Control System, and the Missile Launch unit. As a result, it uses advanced data fusion and processing technology to make automated decisions in real-time.

As also mentioned in the video, its advantages include a high interception rate. In fact, the interception success rate is more than 90 percent. It also has a quick response time.

However, it also has some disadvantages which include how expensive it is to produce, develop, and operate. As well, it can only intercept missiles and rockets at a range of 70 km meaning it can’t, unfortunately, protect all of Israel’s territory, although it is still enough to protect Israel’s central industrial areas.

HOLR will continue to provide updates on Israel at war with Hamas after the unprecedented attacks.
