What happened to Kaylin Gillis? HOLR breaks down the latest updates in the heartbreaking case.

According to this article, Kaylin Gillis, 20, was killed this past Saturday in upstate New York after her friends drove into the wrong driveway on the way to a party- and a homeowner emerged firing a gun.

Kevin Monahan

Gillis was sitting in the passenger seat of a car with three other people when the group accidentally drove into the wrong driveway as noted here. The homeowner, Kevin Monahan (65) supposedly fired two shots from his porch when the group realized they had made a mistake and were turning to exit.

Gillis was fatally struck in the neck by a lead slug that was fired by Monahan from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Gills’ boyfriend, Blake Walsh, was driving the car at the time of the incident. “We thought we were at the right address,” said Walsh. “We didn’t have any cell service to figure it out. As soon as we figured it out that we were at the wrong location, we started to leave, and that’s when everything happened.”

As mentioned here- since there was no cell service in the area- the group had to drive down the road before alerting emergency services. By the time responders arrived at the scene, Gillis was declared dead.

Monahan was arrested and charged with second-degree murder as a result of his actions. He has reportedly since been “uncooperative” with the investigation. According to this article, Monahan will remain in jail without bail.
