Online sources are alleging that the LA fires were started to create a “smart city.” What does this mean?

January 10, 2025– There are a ton of rumors running rampant online following claims of the fires in Los Angeles being set intentionally although there is no concrete evidence to back up this claim. In recent news, an alleged arson suspect was caught and apprehended although there is no additional proof that the fires in LA were created intentionally.

Now, there are claims circulating on social media platforms such as X and TikTok alleging that the fires have supposedly been started intentionally in order to turn LA into a “Smart City” by 2028.

What does this mean?

LA Fires

According to this article by Sky News, a series of destructive wildfires erupted across Los Angeles on Tuesday, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds. They have killed at least 10 people and burned thousands of structures, including homes, businesses, and landmarks.

The Palisades and Eaton Fires remain the largest, with over 19,000 acres affected, and more than 179,000 people under evacuation orders. With damages potentially surpassing $10 billion, the fires continue to rage as extreme winds persist, prompting federal and state efforts to combat the blazes while many celebrities have been impacted by the destruction.

Spencer and Heidi Pratt are among the long list of celebs who recently lost their homes in the recent wildfires. The pair have taken to Snapchat and TikTok to document their life following the fires, in which they have been heartbroken to learn that their house did not survive.

La Fires Smart City

The latest claims online allege that the fires were supposedly intentionally started in order to make LA a “Smart City” by the year 2028.

LA has supposedly set ambitious goals for becoming a more sustainable, connected, and technologically advanced city by 2028. Claims that the city is working towards becoming a Smart City through various initiatives that leverage technology and data to improve quality of life, streamline services, and make the city more efficient and resilient have been circulating online following news of the latest wildfires that swept LA.

This has caused speculation on online platforms such as TikTok and X that the fires have been intentionally set to allegedly get the ball rolling or fast-track the supposed smart city agenda seemingly set for 2028.

Following the news surrounding an alleged arsonist being arrested, conspiracy theories involving the fires being intentionally set to get the smart city agenda going have been running wild online. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this alleged claim.

What caused the fires in LA?

According to this article by BBC, wildfires devastating parts of Los Angeles were primarily fueled by a combination of exceptionally dry conditions and powerful Santa Ana winds, which dried out vegetation and rapidly spread flames across large areas.

The region has experienced prolonged drought, worsened by climate change, which has made it more vulnerable to such destructive fires. Though investigations are ongoing, the fires were likely exacerbated by the lack of rainfall and strong winds, with some fires possibly sparked by power lines or utility equipment.

What do you think about the alleged conspiracy claims involving the “smart city” agenda supposedly being linked to the LA fires even though no evidence has been brought about to confirm this claim?
