This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Levi’s Trucker Jacket. The famous denim has remained relevant and stylish for the entirety of its existence. Starting with George Harrison at the Summer of Love in 1967 and growing year by year, the jacket has proved its versatility. It can be edgy, preppy, or athletic. It can be cropped, painted, or distressed. The success of the iconic piece lays in its natural capability of complementing a myriad of subcultures and styles.
To celebrate the anniversary, Levi’s partnered with 50 celebrities — including Chance the Rapper, Solange Knowles, and Diplo — to DIY their own customized jacket. On Oct. 5, these influencers gathered at Levi’s Haus in L.A. to premiere all of the designs. Each jacket was displayed like an art installation to celebrate how the Type III Trucker Jacket is both timeless and unique. The event was packed with celebs, musicians and influencers like Karlie Kloss, Virgil Abloh and Snoop Dogg.
Even if you aren’t a celebrity, you can still customize your own Levi’s jacket. Toronto has two tailor shops where you can personalize your denim – one at CF Sherway Gardens and the other at Square One Shopping Centre. Embroidery, hemming, pins, patches – the options are endless.
