Shakira Builds a Mega-School in Catatumbo with Pies Descalzos Foundation

February 25, 2025: Shakira continues her philanthropic efforts in Colombia with the construction of a mega-school in the Catatumbo region, Norte de Santander. Through her Pies Descalzos Foundation, the international pop star aims to provide quality education to children in one of the most vulnerable areas of the country.

A Commitment to Education

The singer from Barranquilla announced the project on her social media, expressing her enthusiasm and gratitude to American businessman and philanthropist Howard G. Buffett, the Ministry of Education, and other partners for their support.

She shared on Instagram:

“Education changes lives, and that’s why we continue to build futures. Now in Tibú with Howard G. Buffett, the Ministry of Education, and other allies, we make a new school a reality so that more boys and girls in the midst of their difficult and extreme situation in the Catatumbo have access to a quality education. We are ready in a few months! How exciting! ????”

Pies Descalzos Foundation’s Impact

Since its establishment in 1997, the Pies Descalzos Foundation has built 19 schools and supported over 300 educational institutions, benefiting 224,000 students and 38,000 families. One of its standout projects is the Nuevo Bosque Educational Institution in Barranquilla, which received a $15.1 billion peso investment and provides modern facilities for a thousand children.
