Taylor Swift Rap Song
November 26, 2024– Taylor Swift and T-Pain’s “Thug Story” is going viral on TikTok after its debut 15 years ago. This TikTok video posted by user @rapup shows a snippet of the song that was popular when it was released back in 2009. Now, it seems like its virality has returned amidst Swift wrapping up her Eras Tour.

As discussed, this song was a parody of Swift’s song “Love Story,” and was released at the 2009 CMT Awards.
However, as this Reddit thread details, some Swifties in the past have reportedly called for the song to be “taken down” claiming that Swift doesn’t want the song out there. As a result, there are alleged mixed thoughts about the song, in which some claim it can be viewed as problematic, while others think it’s bad but aligns with the music industry back in 2009.
Taylor Swift Rap with T-Pain Lyrics
Commenters took to the comment section of the Reddit post to discuss further.
“Seems like she did something fun with a musical artist who wasn’t in her particular style. I see zero wrong with this. Just seems like artists trading styles and enjoying it,” one user claimed.
“I was revisiting the lyrics and it’s such a solid parody/joke song. I know T Pain made a comment about how it was ‘mocking hip hop’ and implied he regretted doing it but it seems to be more Taylor mocking herself (stating she lives with her parents, bakes, and has never been to a club). Taylor has expressed repeatedly how she was a fan of hip hop in her youth so I just can’t picture the intentions being anything outside of Taylor mocking the fact that her public image was such a far cry from the stereotypical hip hop artist at that time. (I cannot stress enough how cool being a ‘gangster’ was back then when I was a teenager, so her mocking her lack of ‘gangster-ness’ was clearly an attempt at self deprecating humor),” stated another.
As a result, people have pointed out that the song was a joke and that Swift seemingly never actually came forward to talk negatively about the song. As one user pointed out, it was “co-written with T-Pain as satire and [Swift] has always spoken very fondly of the memory, even having a framed picture of it in her Nashville apartment.”
The user also included a photo of Swift with the supposed photo in the back.
