Summer fashion 2019 was all about head games. You may recall once upon a time a certain Queen B of the Upper East Side, outfitted her minions in her signature accessory – the headband. A symbol of the royal crown. Much like Blair Waldorf herself, Miuccia Prada practically tagged her following this summer with the Prada padded headband. In shimmering satins the accessory of season could be seen atop the heads of influencers and fashion girls all spring and summer long. As we transition from summer to autumn and into winter, will the iconic headband still reign supreme? Be it pearl barrettes, padded headbands, or bucket hats, here are the accessories to keep in rotation and the new ones to acquire.

If you have yet to invest in the 90s favourite accessory it’s not too late. As Maria Grazia Chiuri will tell you, bucket hats are here to stay and are sure to have grown on you over the summer. Personally, I’m not opposed to accenting a dark autumn outfit with a leopard bucket hat. As the Dior Fall 2019 runway show has proven, bucket hats can in fact be chic.

For those not quite ready to relive the 90’s try last years’ favourite winter chapeaux – the beret. In a (faux) leather à la Zimmerman, or a sequin for a more modern version than your classic wool. For the true fashionista, for which embellishment has no limits – accessorize your accessory by adding a brooch to said beret.

While our Instagram feeds were clogged this past season with images of hair loaded with pearl encrusted barrettes, autumn is about hair saturated with large velvet bows. Seen on the runway at Dolce & Gabbana, hair was covered in halos of bows. An edgier alternative to a historically dainty accessory.

By far the most unique and innovative accessory for fall is jewelry for your hair. Many different variations of this could be seen in streetwear over fashion week. Including braids with safety pins, or coifs woven with delicate chains. Beautiful diamond hair pieces reminiscent at Area for Fall 2019 – the draping of chains is one of the brands’ signature looks. The loose pearls scattered amongst the hair in Rodarte’s latest collection is a must to recreate – especially for holiday and New Years’ parties.

From practical hats to keep us warm in cooler months, to new takes on classic hair accessories and the introduction of jewelry for your hair, it’s safe to say that accessorizing our hair is still a major trend for the upcoming season.
