Most Watched Super Bowl Halftime Show

This weekend’s Super Bowl saw over 123 million viewers, the most watched TV broadcast since the Moon landing in 1969. Many people tune in for different reasons: watching their favorite team, the love of football, the commercials, and even potential Taylor Swift sightings. Others watch because of the famous halftime performance. For the second time, Usher took the stage, and Las Vegas, by storm.

Usher Halftime Performance

Usher’s Super Bowl halftime performance consisted of a large circular stage, connected to two smaller circular stages. Throughout the show, the floor changed colors and images, including a clock, with dancers in glittery costumes joining the Grammy-award-winning artist.

Speaking with Gayle King ahead of the performance, the singer remarked how much time and effort he put into the set. “It’s a celebration of our culture,” Usher said about the importance of this year’s halftime show. “[A] celebration of R&B, a celebration of a career, a 9-year-old who just believed,”

Many Super Bowl performers choose to invite musical guests onto the stage. Continuing that tradition, six guests joined Usher throughout the performance.

Alicia Keys was the first musical guest at the performance, singing a cover of her song “If I Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo” alongside Usher. Keys matched the piano she played on with a sparkling ruby red outfit.

After Jermain Dupri pumped up the crowd for the next songs, H.E.R. and Usher sang “U Got It Bad” and “Bad Girl.” H.E.R. emerged onto the stage playing a solo on her electric guitar.

Following H.E.R., will.i.am and Usher joined his rollerblading dancers for a rendition of “OMG” before transitioning to “Turn Down for What” featuring DJ Snake and Lil Jon. The performance ended with Usher and Ludacris performing the iconic song “Yeah.”
