What happens to human body in an implosion? HOLR breaks down the internet’s most-asked question after devastating details about the Titan submersible implosion were revealed.

As TikTok video posted by user @scibodytherapy explains in detail what happens to a body during a submersible implosion, similar to what would’ve happened to the 5 victims on board the Titan submersible that sadly passed away earlier this week.

What happens to your body when it implodes?

As noted in the TikTok video, human bodies are used to approximately 1 atmosphere of pressure. However, on board the Titan submersible, the human body was exposed to 400 atmospheres of pressure during the implosion. This equates to about 6000 pounds of pressure per square inch. As described in the video, that could equal about 18 million pounds of pressure being put on the average human body.

As a result, the quality of the submersible matters greatly because it could mean the difference between life and death. As previously reported, the Titan submersible featured some questionable features and components that didn’t seem up to safety standards.

Simply put, the Titan became a tube of toothpaste in a hydraulic press. The TikToker notes that the upside to catastrophic implosions is that they happen very quickly.  In the case of Titan, the implosion likely occurred within less than a millisecond- maybe even a nanosecond. The TikToker goes on to say that it takes time for things like pain to be transmitted through nerves to the brain to be registered and processed. For pain, it takes approximately 100 milliseconds- that’s about 99 milliseconds longer than it took the submersible to implode, meaning the 5 men on board likely did not see or feel the implosion because it happened instantaneously.  This is because it takes 13 milliseconds to process visual imagery.

What happens to the body when a sub implodes?

It is very unlikely that any remains of the 5 men who perished on board will be found. This is because- during an implosion- the pressure inside the submersible compresses the air, causing it to heat up to about the temperature of the sun (10,000 degrees Fahrenheit). As a result, the bodies of the 5 men were likely reduced to a gel, which would’ve been ejected out of the seams of the crushed sub at a high velocity.

Although we will never know exactly what happened to the Titan that day during the implosion, these informative videos paint a likely picture of what may have ultimately gone down.
