Rust is the film where the controversial Alec Baldwin shooting happened.Resulting in the death of a crew member. Despite this controversy, the film will soon be available in theaters.

Alec Baldwin Shooting

April 1st, 2025- Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter when he fired a gun on the set of Rust. Specifically, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died because of a gunshot. In addition, director Joel Souza also sustained some injuries.

The actor’s case has been dismissed, with his lawyer stating that Baldwin “had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set.”

In addition, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer who oversaw firearms on the set, was also charged. Specifically, prosecutors believe that she was hungover when she loaded a live bullet into the gun Baldwin allegedly shot.

Rust Film Release Date

Rust is set to be released in theatres in May.

Reportedly, Baldwin and the producers will not profit from the film. Instead, the film’s proceeds will, allegedly, go to Hutchin’s family.

Rust 2024 Film Plot

In the film, Baldwin stars as an outlaw called Harland Rust. Obviously, his character plays a major role in the film, due to sharing a last name with the film’s title. However, the Western’s protagonist is Lucas McCalister, played by Patrick Scott McDermott. Reportedly, the film will follow McCalister on the run from the law after he accidentally kills a rancher. Specifically, Baldwin’s character breaks him out of jail, and the two try to escape to Mexico.

While the film’s eventual release is probably going to cause some discussion, hopefully, it will also serve as a reminder of Hutchins and her artistry.
