Montreal is famous for its European flair which is expressed through the French language, beautiful architecture and appreciation of a culture centred around enjoying and sharing food.

There are many areas to explore, from Chinatown to Little Italy to the Old Port, all of which have amazing restaurants with their own unique ambiance. Montreal is the perfect city for foodies to visit and enjoy the amazing restaurants the beautiful city has to offer.

The best breakfast and brunch: Tommy.

Tommy is the place to go for the best simple breakfast and brunch items such as avocado toast and amazing coffee and bagels.  Their locations in Old Montreal are very trendy and are extremely popular with locals.

If you are looking for a casual lunch: Mandy’s.

Mandy’s is the best place to go for a salad. This spot has both takeout and dine-in options with a menu that is both inventive and delicious — including their monthly special salad and the choice to create your own salad.

For sandwiches: Olive Et Gourmando

This place has the best sandwiches in all of Montreal… and the lines to prove it. Yes, one of their delicious signature sandwiches is worth waiting in line for (even in the cold).  Serving both hot and cold sandwiches is the main part of a very small but perfectly curated menu.

For a special, extra fancy meal:  Estiatorio Milos

Check out this hotspot for fresh greek food in a beautiful high class setting.  The food is simple, fresh and of the highest quality — you can even pick your own fish that will be specially cooked for you.  This restaurant has gone from being a Montreal classic to a global hit.  Beatrice Ristorante is another luxurious restaurant in the city and is a modern take on classic Italian food found downtown in the Golden Square Mile district with an upscale Italian menu and a stunning garden terrace.

For Steak: Gibby’s

This gem is a classic in this city, located in a 200-year-old building in Old Montreal.  Both the amazing food and beautiful classic atmosphere that you can only find in this part of the city make it a great destination for an occasion.

For a casual classic Montreal meal: L’Express.

It’s been in business since 1980 and is located in a unique area on rue saint Denis.  Walking through their doors feels as though you are in a bistro in Paris due to the classic menu and beautiful ambiance featuring a long bar, classic bistro flooring and tables covered in crisp white table cloths.  The menu itself is small and even more classic featuring pate and classics such as steak and fries.

Additionally…

For a meal by Montreal’s most famous chef, go to one of Chuck Hughes’ cool and classic restaurants in Old Montreal.  This Food Network chef who has his own shows on tv showcases his talents in his two restaurants, Le Bremner and Garde Manger. Both of these have a cool and dark ambiance with very few seats making the experience feel extra special.  The menus are small and change often, focusing on fres, continental style cuisine.

The BEST sweets can be found at Maison Christian Faure with two locations, one downtown and one in the Old Port. This pastry shop has all the French desserts you could ever dream of.  Try any of their amazing croissants or French pastries that they make fresh daily , and you’ll feel like you were just transported to Paris.
