Reports that Russia’s Alexei Navalny passed away at age 47 shocked the internet. HOLR breaks down the latest.

According to this TikTok video posted by user @dailymail, the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, addressed the breaking news that Alexei Navalny is dead.

Alexei Navalny Cause Of Death

As noted in the TikTok video’s caption, Harris seemingly blames Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “brutality” for Navalny’s death in her speech where she addresses the public. Navalny, the Russian opposition leader who reportedly worked to expose corrupt elites was reportedly serving his sentence as a political prisoner during his time of death.

As this related article states, a statement released by the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District said Navalny felt unwell after a walk at the IK-3 penal colony in Kharp. Allegedly, Navalny lost consciousness and died shortly afterward. He reportedly died despite the prison’s medical team and ambulance staff’s efforts. As well, attempts to resuscitate him reportedly failed.

According to this article, IK-3 penal colony is extremely strict, and only “those accused of the very worst crimes are sent to IK-3.” The article also describes alleged extreme punishments inmates would supposedly have to endure.

Yulia Navalnya, his wife, seemingly called out Putin in a recent speech, “I know that Vladimir Putin, his allies, his friends … will be held responsible for what they had done to our country, to my husband and with our people,” outlined here.

Allegedly, Navalny’s mother claimed he was “alive, healthy and happy” in a social media post when she saw him last a few days ago.
