If the spring/summer ’19 runway collections taught us anything, it’s that a chic handbag might be the hottest accessory you’ll need to turn heads.

And please don’t be shy with your clutch – the less subdued, the better. From playful top shapes, to belted minis and crocheted totes – here are the top handbag trends for spring 2019 that will have your friends screaming with purse envy.

1) Mini Handbags

Miniature bags have been all the rage on the runways (and our Insta feeds) for the past few seasons – and the trend isn’t going away this spring. Although we’ll have to wait until next season before we sashay the streets in these teeny-tiny Jacquemus clutches, we can’t resist Nicolas Ghesquière’s interpretation of the modern minaudière. This SS19 Louis Vuitton Toupie bag features a playful, spinning top shape, and is sure to draw more than a few stares with its long, monogram canvas cord. Not as practical for work or school, but pair it with a sleeveless print dress and stiletto ankle boots – and you’re good for date night.

2) Utility Belt Bags

Think of an updated version of the 90s fanny pack (thank you, Kendall Jenner). While belt bags were hot on the SS19 runways, Fendi upped the game with its compartmentalized version. Chic and multifunctional, this “tool belt” bag carries three frontal slots to hold small items — your phone, credit cards, and a hook for your keys. Already we’re seeing these all over the streets of New York — just pair it with some bike shorts, and you’re good to go!

3) Lanyard Bags

These lanyard-style bags dangle around your neck – perfect for traveling (or, you know, if you just get tired holding your purse all night). Burberry went all out during SS19 with their faux-croc passport holders – but opt for something a bit more chic this spring, like Erdem’s black tasseled lanyard paired with a girlish floral print.

4) Crochet bags

Go boho-chic this spring! Crocheted bags are lightweight and typically come in neutral beige and sandy tones – a super-cute accessory for a beach date. Alberta Ferretti’s crocheted backpacks were a hit on the SS19 runways, but you can easily take the look from day to evening with a black Isabel Marant teomia-fringed open knit bag.

5) See-Through “Glass” Bags

Balmain’s collection of see-through bags for spring 2019 will have you feeling a lot more transparent. Perfect if you’re looking to declutter, or if you’re simply not afraid to show off your personal belongings. For date night, opt for Balmain’s plexi ‘broken glass’ bag, fashioned in a box-like silhouette with a fold-over flap.

Pair it with a white mini dress, and you’re good to go!
