Survey Reveals Unusual Ingredients in UK Spag Bol Recipes
A survey of more than 2,000 UK adults revealed that Brits are becoming creative with their Spag Bol recipes and are ditching traditional ingredients for surprising alternatives.
According to research by Linda McCartney Foods, four per cent decide to splash coffee into their Italian dish while five per cent choose to dollop some Marmite into it.
17% of Brits Add Ketchup, 10% Add BBQ Sauce
Meanwhile, 17 per cent opt for ketchup and 10 per cent select BBQ sauce to give their meaty meal some flavour.
It comes as 230,695,650 portions are set to be consumed across the UK this year, with over 20 million portions being eaten in January alone.
On average, Brits tuck into the dish twice a week, cementing its status as one of the nation’s favourite go-to meals – with Winchester bagging the crown as the ‘Spaghetti Bolognese Capital of the UK’.
Rebecca Fairbairn, Head of Marketing, said: “We’re excited to crown Winchester as the UK’s Spaghetti Bolognese Capital.
“We’re hoping this January that we can help everyone make one simple switch by using our Nation’s Best Tasting Vegemince [a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternative] instead of beef mince in their own Spaghetti Bolognese.
“And thanks to our Try Me Love Me on pack offer, we’re making it even easier for everyone to get involved.”
