The highly anticipated, Asian-themed feature film Swallowtail & Dragonfly has wrapped production and post-production and is now set for distribution. Based on a true story, this compelling drama follows the extraordinary journey of one courageous woman who rises from the glittering stardom of 1930s Shanghai as a gifted artist, endures the ravages of war and revolution, and returns again—sustained by her exquisite gift for beauty and an epic love that would not die.

Produced by Emmy-nominated Evelyn Xu (granddaughter of Lianxia Zhou), Swallowtail & Dragonfly boasts a dynamic, all-star international cast. Vanessa Yao (Kung Fu) and Vivian Dawson (Tiny Times 3 & 4) star in the title roles, with Russell Wong (Mummy: Curse of the Emperor’s Tomb, Romeo Must Die), Cici Lau (Babylon), Naomi Matsuda (Bold & Beautiful), Daisy Wang (Artificial), Jim Lau (Big Trouble in Little China), Wilky Lau (Wish Dragon), Richard Ouyang (Love, Arcadia), Candace Kita (Infamously in Love), and Jessica Debonville (Dragon King). The passion and dedication of the entire team are evident.

The film benefits from the expertise of a talented crew, including Emmy-winning composer Nathan Wang (A Legend, The Game Plan), who provides the score, and acclaimed instrumentalist Celia Liu (Avatar, Kung Fu Panda), who plays the pipa. Editor/Sound Editor Erik Lundmark (Devils Cove) and co-editor Zhiqui Jin, cinematographer Jeff Chu (The Missing Twin), costume designer Selena Xin Jin (The Lady of the House Love), and production designer Tammy Trinh (Temptation Under the Sun) collaborate to create a visually rich and historically accurate aesthetic. The film also features an additional song by two-time Grammy Award winner David May.

Written and directed by Sundance finalist and award-winning director Julia Jay Pierrepont III (Good; Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel), Swallowtail & Dragonfly is more than just a historical drama. It is a celebration of art, culture, and the indomitable spirit of women. Through the lens of Lianxia Zhous extraordinary life, the film encourages audiences to reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of those who came before us, while highlighting the transformative power of art in shaping both individuals and society.

Filmed at iconic locations, including The Huntington Library and the USC Pacific Asia Museum, the film immerses viewers in the opulent yet turbulent world of 1930s Shanghai. With its lush cinematography, powerful storytelling, and unforgettable performances, Swallowtail & Dragonfly promises to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.
