After 30 seasons with ABC, Dancing With The Stars is moving to Disney Plus this coming Fall 2022.
The dancing competition that has graced our screens for the last 16 years will be moving from its home network, ABC, and expanding its reach with Disney Plus. The news embarked early this month. The streaming platform confirms that they picked up the show for two seasons, with the first one (Season 31) starting this Fall of 2022. This makes Dancing With The Stars the first live series to premiere on the site.
From ABC to Disney Plus
Disney Media and Walt Disney Television aim to expand their demographic by introducing more unscripted shows on the streaming site. In a press release, the chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution expressed his excitement with the news, “’Dancing with the Stars’ has entertained fans for 16 years on ABC, and we are excited to bring this beloved show exclusively to Disney+ as the platform’s first-ever live series,” says Kareem Daniel. “The show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ while continuing to expand our demographic reach.”
Dana Walden, Chairman of Entertainment at Walt Disney Television shares the same sentiment, “As we’re significantly expanding our unscripted slate at ABC, this is a great opportunity to introduce this show to a whole new generation of fans on Disney+. We’re so grateful to our incredible partners at BBC Studios and look forward to continuing our relationship with them on this spectacular series.”
The Last 16 Years of Dancing With The Stars
Dancing With The Stars first aired on ABC in 2005. For the last 16 years, DWTS has managed to perfectly pair celebrities with trained ballroom dancers. The compatibility, execution and skill exhibited by the contestants are the few things fans look for in a competition as intense as this. For the last 30 seasons, it has grown into a well-recognized global show. It hosted plenty of celebrities that have made a mark on and off the dancefloor.
Dancing With The Stars Season 30 Recap
Last Fall of 2021, DWTS came back with another grand show. During the 30th season, contestants including Iman Shumpert, Daniella Karagach, and YouTube personality JoJo Siwa played head to head. The 30th season ended with Shumpert as the winner along with Karagach. Jojo Siwa and her dance partner, Jenna Johnson, were the first same-sex couple in the show. The two successfully nabbed the second place.

Both contestants and judges are still up in the air but the show’s host is confirmed. Model and TV personality, Tyra Banks, will host the new season.
The new season is set to premiere in September 2022, exclusively on Disney Plus.
