Harry and Meghan make a pit stop at Windsor Castle before heading to the Netherlands.
On Thursday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met with Queen Elizabeth on their way to the Invictus Games.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals in January 2020. They have since taken up residence in California.
Prince Harry was last seen in the UK in July 2021 for the unveiling of a statue of his mother Princess Diana. He also returned for his grandfather, Prince Philip’s funeral.
Meghan has not been back since the Commonwealth Day Service in March 2020. This was the first time Meghan saw her grandmother-in-law in person since leaving the UK.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Sun newspaper, “Maundy Thursday is a very special day for the Queen as it is about forgiveness.”
“She is not one to hold grudges and I think she would have happily welcomed them with open arms,” Seward continued.
Additionally, ITV’s royal editor Chris Ship reported that the Sussexes did not see Prince William and Kate during their visit to Windsor.
The couple’s trip to Windsor comes a month after their absence from a memorial service for Harry’s grandfather.
The couple is in Europe for the fifth Invictus Games, an international sports competition founded by Harry for wounded service members and veterans.
On Friday, the Sussexes made their first appearance at a welcome reception for friends and family of participants. The event was held at the Zuiderpark, where the games will take place.
Meghan and Harry both wore suits, Meghan in white and Harry in Navy. Meghan styled the Valentino wide-legged trousers and oversized blazer with a white handbag from the same designer. You might also recognize her heels as the same Aquazzura heels she wore to her wedding to harry.
