Tell us about how you got your start in the industry as an actor, comedian, music artist, and podcast/TV host.
I got my start in the industry when I went to an open call for Shrek the Musical in 2005 and auditioned for the role of Shrek. That moment directly resulted in a series of 32 callbacks and thus being cast on Broadway in the show and watching my entire life change in every way. Working on that musical opened doors for the first time and I did whatever I could to shimmy my ass through as many doors as possible. I got my first manager, got my first agent and I was off to the races.
Talk to us about your iconic role as ‘Gustavo’ on Big Time Rush– what was that experience like?
It was a dream come true. That show had everything I love. Great music, super talented people, hilarious characters, funny scripts, and the freedom to create a character from scratch. Now, looking back on it, my favorite part is being a part of people’s childhood. That’s what means the most to me.
We hear that you’re working on your next big project, “The Guest List with Stephen Kramer Glickman.” Can you tell us more about this and what we can expect when tuning in?
Just like when I was a kid and my grandparents would make me sing in their living room during a dinner party, this is a show where I ask my celebrity friends to sing and do stand up for each other at my house in the Hollywood Hills. It’s a really funny show and I am so proud of it.
Who are some of the celebrity guests you speak with on “The Guest List with Stephen Kramer Glickman”?
The show is packed full of celebrity guests including male supermodel Fabio, Hayley Orrantia from The Goldbergs, Grammy Winner Lisa Loeb, and many more. We have way too much fun together. You’re gonna love it.
You’re also working on releasing your latest cover, which is a country version of “Montero” [Call Me by Your Name] by Lil Nas X. Tell us more about this exciting project.
I teamed up with music producer, Buddy Gibbons to create this “Spaghetti Western” style cover of Lil Nas X’s song “Montero” because I am obsessed with that song. I’m such a huge fan of Lil Nas X and everything he stands for, I just wanted to put a different spin on this massive hit. It honestly feels like we took the style of old town Road and blended it up with Montero. It works so damn well, I mean Buddy is a beast. When it came time for the music video, I reached out to my favorite vodka company, Reigncane Vodka, and we started working out how to shoot a music video with my co-director Andy Chen. I got super lucky on this project, and we got to shoot on location with a case of vodka, a horse, and a ton of great cameos. I really hope everyone enjoys it because it was a hell of a lot of fun to make.
What’s next for you?
I’m planning to build a submarine to explore the ocean. Unless, for some reason, you think that’s a bad idea?
