Anyone who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day does not know how to pull off winter whites.

How to Wear Winter Whites

Summertime is when light-coloured clothes prevail in our wardrobe and as we move to fall and winter, the dark neutral clothes take over. Somehow, it is easier to match our outfit with the grey winter skies. The gloomy, dull days of the winter can dampen the mood when getting dressed, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I love an all-black look as much as the next person, but an all-white outfit holds a different kind of attitude that no other colours can recreate. It’s airy, sophisticated and polished.

Below are some ways you can wear winter whites this season.

Fisherman Knits

Fisherman knits or a cable knit sweater is a style of sweater Irish fishermen wore back in the day. Traditionally, these were made of natural colours of sheep’s wool (off-white or cream). Obviously, you don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy the coziness of the sweater. Cable knit sweaters are the perfect winter staple for layering clothes. It can be paired with relaxed trousers, as shown here by Apiece Apart or it can be dressed up in wide-leg trousers and strappy heels like this one from Stella McCartney

Cozy Co-ords

As I’ve mentioned earlier, all-white outfits hold such impressive power that makes the wearer look polished without trying. A cozy co-ord set is an easiest yet most effective way to achieve this. Two-piece loungewear like this one from Free People will make your gloomy winter mornings more pleasant (not to mention that this is a good winter vacation look!) Better yet, this ribbed Anne Bing co-ord is suitable for both easy night-in and fun night-outs.

White Wide-Leg Denim

Sometimes I get pleasantly surprised by how underrated white denim is. And by white denim, I don’t mean the early 2010s skinny white jeans we all used to love. In the wintertime, I find it difficult (even more than usual) to wear skinny jeans so I always go for wide-leg trousers. Recently, I found myself gravitating more on white or cream-coloured jeans. Whether it’s wide-legged cropped, slouchy low-waist, or even a balloon leg, all silhouettes seem to achieve greater heights when it’s in a lighter shade. As a casual piece, you can style wide-leg denim with a sweater, Chelsea boots, and a cool jacket of your choice.

Cool White Outerwear

Why not elevate your winter outerwear game by going for a white statement piece? Outerwear can be in a form of a cozy puff, a teddy coat, and a leather trench. Style it like how you normally style your dark winter coat. The only difference is that you look cooler this time around.

Winter White Boots

The same thing with the winter coat, your winter boots need just as much love. Instead of the regular black boots, go out of your style comfort zone and get yourself white boots like will surely make your outfit pop! This Steve Madden one is your standard Chelsea lug sole boots which can easily be paired with your new white wide-leg denim. These canvas and rubber boots by Chuck Taylor will look great with a cozy knit set. And these over-the-knee boots by Public Desire are the perfect texture match-up with a long teddy coat.
