Most viewers immediately made the connection between what Jaime was watching and real influencers. Specifically, Andrew Tate immediately comes to mind. However, co-creator and writer Jack Thorne states that there is much more dangerous content out there.
‘[Teenage boys are] watching a lot more dangerous stuff than Andrew Tate…We were trying to present a portrait of complexity of this kid that had been made by all sorts of different influences and the thing about incel culture is there’s a logic to it,’ Thorne told The Independent.
Misogyny, gender inequality, and any topic relating to the patriarchy are relevant, no matter what country you reside in. Despite many people admitting that adolescence is a ‘hard watch,’ it is being praised for its in-depth exploration of this type of behaviour.
