As authorities piece together Luigi Mangione motive, some sources say that Luigi “went crazy” after back surgery. Allegedly Luigi had a surfing accident and had back surgery, which left him dealing with a lot of pain after. He allegedly sought alternative treatment like with psychedelics. Luigi had a lot of animosity toward insurance companies and in his Manifesto wrote about how they do not care about Americans or improving their life expectancy.

26 year old Mangione, a former computer science student at the University of Pennsylvania, was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona. He was found carrying a firearm with a silencer, multiple fake IDs, and a manifesto outlining grievances against the health insurance industry.

Evidence Mangione Shooting Brian Thompson

Investigators recovered DNA evidence and items at the crime scene, including 9mm shell casings inscribed with the words “deny,” “depose,” and “defend.” These inscriptions mirror a rallying cry used by individuals who feel wronged by health insurance companies.

Surveillance footage also captured the suspect at a hostel and a bus terminal, supporting the case against Mangione.

Thompson’s death has intensified public discourse on the healthcare industry, with some social media users expressing little sympathy due to personal grievances with health insurance practices. This sentiment is partly fueled by recent fraud and insider trading allegations against Thompson.
