From Brick Salesman to NFL stud kicker. Jake Bates Makes Clutch Field Goal to steal win over Houston Texans.

November 11, 2024- A year ago, Jake Bates was selling bricks in Houston. Today, he is celebrating yet another game winning field goal.

Goff has been flawless so far in the season prior to this game against the Texans. He led the league in passer rating and had also led the Lions to a 7-1 first half of the season.

Goff was not his usual fantastic self last night. He threw a season high 5 interceptions (more than he had thrown all season combined) and failed to connect on many go-ahead completions.

But Jake Bates came in to save the day, nailing a 52 yard field goal to seal a victory over the Texans.

Who is Jake Bates?

Bates began his pro football career in the UFL playing for the Michigan Panthers. Before signing with the Panthers, Bates was in Houston working as a brick salesman.

Bates was then signed to the Detroit Lions at the start of the 2024 season. There were alot of question marks around this young and seemingly untested kicker. Though throughout 10 weeks, it is safe to say that Bates has put the doubters to rest.

Bates has yet to miss a field goal this season and is also 3/3 on kicks 50+ yards.

Bates is 25 years old and is playing for one of the best teams in the NFL. He was a brick salesman a year ago. His story is a great example that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

The Lions move to 8-1 with Bates clutch field goal and the Texans continue to drop after a heart breaking loss.
