As noted in the TikTok video, James Charles recently launched a makeup line called Painted. The idea behind the lineup is that you can create an entire makeup look with the 10 pigments offered. Since its launch, the brand has been pretty successful to date, with celebrities such as Cardi B sporting the brand.

However, the controversy surrounding the brand is that- allegedly- the new Create Paints are deemed unsafe by FDA standards and are not FDA-approved. The TikToker goes on to explain the claim that none of the pigments are supposedly safe for the eyes. Although the FDA is not reportedly strict when it comes to this “sort of thing” it is when it comes to two colours that Charles is allegedly using- Red #28 and Red #36. The TikToker states that this information was reportedly found by KJ Bennett Beauty, and, as outlined in the TikTok video, the FDA notes that brands need to tell buyers that it is not intended for eye use. If the FDA does approve those 2 colours, the brand has to tell the buyer that it is FDA-approved- however, none of the Painted paints allegedly say that they are. The TikToker goes on to say that Charles mainly promotes the paints for eye use despite them allegedly not being deemed safe for the eyes or FDA-approved for the eyes.
