The forward for Australian Football League team Melbourne Demons has supposedly been suspended pending an investigation into accusations of drug trafficking.

Per a related article, Melbourne Demons forward Joel Smith, 26, has reportedly been suspended following allegations by the AFL’s Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) of possession and trafficking of cocaine. The SIA accused Smith of 3 violations of Australia Football’s Anti-Doping Code.

The AFL announced that Smith, who was previously suspended last year after a positive drug test, submitted a sample on August 20 of last year. The sample allegedly tested positive for cocaine and benzoylecgonine, a form of cocaine created in the liver after ingestion.

In a statement released to the public, the AFL stated that Smith would be suspended pending an investigation, “he is not permitted to be part of Melbourne’s football program, including Melbourne’s pre-season training that is currently underway,”

HOLR previously reported that fellow AFL footballer Jack Ginnivan, then 20, had been banned from playing in last season’s opening matches after he admitted to using an “illicit substance.”
