Katrina Kaif Responds to ‘Glamour Doll’ Label, Proudly Declares Zoya Is One of Strongest Characters She’s Played.

Katrina Kaif found herself at the receiving end of comments dismissing her as ‘just a glamour doll’ for her role in Tiger 3. However, the seasoned actress responded with grace, asserting the strength and depth of her character, Zoya.

During today’s Mumbai press conference for Merry Christmas, Katrina Kaif expressed surprise and disbelief when a journalist casually labeled her role in Tiger 3 as nothing more than “just a glamour doll.”

Katrina Kaif had a swift and composed reply for a reporter who characterized her role in Tiger 3 as merely “just a glamour doll.” During a press conference for her upcoming film, Sriram Raghavan’s thriller Merry Christmas, the actress was visibly surprised when a member of the media inquired about the transition from a “just a glamour role” in her last film, Maneesh Sharma’s 2023 spy thriller Tiger 3, to play a more “nuanced character” in her current project.

A Resolute Response:

“I see things a little different perhaps. I actually think the character of Zoya is one of the strongest characters I’ve ever had the chance to play. Especially in Tiger 3, it was so nuanced and so well-written by Maneesh Sharma. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to play that character,” Katrina said in her response to the reporter’s question (noted here). The actress delves into the complexities of her character, showcasing Zoya’s resilience, intelligence, and emotional depth that goes beyond the surface. Kaif’s eloquent response serves as a testament to her commitment to delivering performances that go beyond stereotypes.

Empowering Women in Bollywood:

Katrina Kaif’s experience with Tiger 3 is symbolic of a larger movement within the Bollywood industry. Actresses are no longer confined to one-dimensional roles; instead, they are taking on characters that break free from traditional molds. Zoya, with her resilience and strength, contributes to this shift, inspiring a new generation of viewers and actors alike.

The term ‘glamour doll’ has long been associated with actresses who are perceived as prioritizing looks over substance. However, Katrina Kaif’s portrayal of Zoya challenges this stereotype, offering audiences a character that embodies strength, determination, and authenticity. This shift in narrative not only reflects Kaif’s evolution as an artist but also marks a broader trend in Bollywood towards embracing diverse and empowering roles for women.

During an event in Mumbai, the creators unveiled not just one but two distinct trailers, shot in both Hindi and Tamil. The press conference was graced by the presence of actors Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sanjay Kapoor, alongside director Sriram Raghavan and producers Ramesh Taurani and Sanjay Routray.

Adding to the cinematic experience, the team also launched a soulful track titled “Nazar Teri Toofan,” sung by Papon, with lyrics crafted by Varun Grover and music composed by Pritam. This melodious collaboration marks the first time Pritam and Varun Grover have joined forces, promising a unique and enchanting musical journey.

Katrina said this of working with Raghavan (noted here): “For me, working with Sriram Raghavan was always on my bucket list, and he’s been one of my favorite directors. When I heard the story, I was in awe that I was going to get to work with him in a story like this which was so incredible. And also it was right for me, that’s why sir and I came together for this film. He must have also seen that in the character.”
