The Laken Riley case has shocked the nation. Autopsy report details have been circulating online since news of the trial went viral.

November 22, 2024– The Laken Riley case has shocked the nation.

The 22-year-old nursing student was attacked by the accused, Jose Ibarra, one day in February while she was out for a morning run. It is alleged that Ibarra tried to SA Riley but she fought back. It is then alleged that he attacked and killed her in which her cause of death was revealed to be the “combined effects of blunt force head trauma and asphyxia,” as mentioned in this ABC News article.

Ibarra was identified as a suspect the next day following his DNA being found underneath Riley’s fingernails, seemingly indicating that she tried to fight back against her attacker.

As this article by USA Today mentions, Ibarra has been found guilty of murder in the Laken Riley trial. As a result, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. News reports had alleged that Ibarra had allegedly been “hunting for females’’ at the Univerity of Georgia campus, where Riley was on her morning run, in which he reportedly spotted Riley as his victim. It is alleged that he had planned to SA her but she fought back. It is alleged that she passed away when he “bashed her skull in with a rock repeatedly.’’ (here)

It was revealed during the trial that Riley messaged her mother before heading out for a run. She was then captured on a trail camera, running. However, just minutes later it was discovered that she tried to phone 911. However, the call hung up before a dispatcher could speak with Riley. 911 also called back twice with no answer.

Riley’s mother tried returning her daughter’s message, in which multiple phone calls – from both her mother and sister- went unanswered. This is likely around the time Ibarra attacked Riley.  Riley’s heart is believed to have stopped around 9:28 am, seemingly less than 30 minutes after she left for her morning run. This data was allegedly captured on the smartwatch she was wearing at the time of her death.

As outlined in this Newsweek article, details from Riley’s autopsy report were revealed during the trial which shocked the nation.

As the article explains, Dr. Michelle DiMarco – from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI)- testified in court this past week that Riley’s body had multiple injuries as a result of her encounter with Ibarra. These injuries reportedly included those to her head, neck, torso, and limbs.

Eight cuts to Riley’s head were also pointed out, one of which seemingly resulted in a skull fracture. DiMarco suggested that the injuries “could be consistent with a rock.” As a result, a GBI specialist also confirmed that Riley’s DNA was reportedly found on two rocks at the scene.
