Lily Gladstone Killers of the Flower Moon SAG Awards
Lily Gladstone made history on Sunday when she received a SAG for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. Gladstone, who is of Blackfeet and Nimíipuu ancestry, starred as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s film Killers of the Flower Moon. This made her the first indigenous actor to win a SAG award.

Gladstone was nominated alongside Carey Mulligan, Margot Robbie, Annette Bening, and Emma Stone. During her acceptance speech, she addressed the WGA strike and the importance of storytelling.

The actress previously received a Golden Globe award and Academy Award nomination for the same role. She is the first Native American to receive a nomination for both in the supporting actress category.
Killers of the Flower Moon Leonardo DiCaprio Martin Scorsese Lily Gladstone Screen Actors Guild Awards
The film, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, centers around the Burkhart family on the Osage reservation in Oklahoma. Gladstone stars as Mollie Burkhart, a member of the Osage Nation as her white husband Ernest Burkhart, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, conspires with his uncle, played by Robert Di Niro, to steal the Osage Nation’s oil rights. A series of indigenous people then take place, including Mollie’s mother and sister.
Scorsese previously discussed how speaking with members of the Osage Nation and Mollie Burkhart’s descendants shaped the way he made the film. The legendary director visited the Osage Nation to attend a dinner and speak with its members about the legacy of these murders.
“And I’m realizing that this is actual,” Scorsese recounted during an interview with Stephen Colbert, “It’s still alive.”
