Why is Maren Morris leaving country Music?

Because the 33-year-old Country Music singer reportedly called the genre “toxic” and Maren Morris is “done.”

And we only need to listen to her latest album to hear exactly what she thinks of it.

But Maren did reveal to the L.A. Times the reason she needed to leave country behind.

“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over, but it’s burning itself down without my help.”

And she continued to put the country music industry on blast and claimed they weren’t “willing to face the history of racism and misogyny.”

What does Maren say about the status quo?

The lyrics reflect her feelings quite handily.

But the singer can’t tolerate the “who’s welcome and who’s not” culture in Nashville.

She believes the status quo needs to change and include more women, more people of colour and people of LGBTIQA+ background.

Additionally, ‘The Tree’ and ‘Get the Hell Out of Here’ reflects the way the wind is blowing.

A culture that celebrated misogyny, racism, homophobia, and transphobia had no place in her life or music.

But that is where the industry was now. And clearly, she wants nothing to do with it.

So, ‘The Tree’ could be a “break up song” just not in the traditional sense.

Due to the failings of the country music culture, the singer is saying farewell to the past.

And now seeks greener, healthier pastures.

One that is fair, accepting and allows her the freedom to enjoy the thing she loves-music.

“I welcome, celebrate and grieve the changes that have happened these last few years and these songs say it better than I ever could in a caption or interview,” she wrote on Instagram.

Maren Morris ‘The Bridge’ is out now.
