As noted in the TikTok video, the next Met Gala theme was recently announced to be “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The TikToker claims that the theme is typically based on the exhibit going on in the Costume Institute, and with their collection of costumes dating back to the 1600s, they have decided to go back to their historical roots with the newest theme. It’s allegedly structured around 50 historically significant pieces that are too fragile to be worn again, as noted in the above video.
This is interesting to note because last year, Kim Kardashian made headlines when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress on the carpet. It was alleged that the dress sustained “permanent damage” following Kardashian squeezing into it, as noted here.
So, is this new theme a low-key dig at Kardashian? It’s unclear.
According to the TikToker, the pieces will supposedly be brought to life using light, AI, and CGI, which will be used in combination with contemporary pieces that reportedly have an emphasis on sustainability.
